5 Rules To Beat Emotional Hangover As A Student

Increased level of anxiety for facing examination; Failure in cracking crucial competitive exams; High level of pressure exerted by parents, families or friends for better performance; Higher self expectations than expected of self; Going through a tough time post relationship breakup; Handling the loss of a beloved one; Going through the phase of truancy; Experiencing bullying by other classmates; Facing frequent embarrassment or punishment from teacher for not being able to submit task on time; Feeling low on being pointed out by friends or teacher for certain things not done by you and plethora of such kinds of examples affects our mental health and ultimately leads  towards Emotional Hangover.

An emotional hangover is a term used to describe how after an event is over, we find ourselves still feeling the emotional impact of that event. This can sometimes last for days, or sometimes for weeks. Experiences that tug at our feelings create emotional hangovers that affect future events and make them easier to remember. Emotional hangovers are becoming a biggest challenge for present adolescents to overcome. Unable to handle such pressure or disturbance, incidents of truancy, suicides and mental disturbances among the students is increasing at an alarming rate.

Ending life or running away from these situations is not the only solution for solving our problem but the difficult tactical ways we opt for resolving these issues can lead to a better life full of contentment and satisfaction. Mentioned below are certain rules or ways by which we can control emotional hangovers.

Rule No. 1: Be A Trailblazer

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” –  Well said by Ralph Waldo Emerson

A trailblazer is a person who is the leader in a particular field, especially who does a particular thing before anyone else does.

“A Trailblazer is a pioneer, somebody who's willing to take risks and go in a path that isn't already there. They blaze a trail and leave a path for others.” Being forward in everything helps us to be ever motivated, sharp in our skills, accelerate our leadership style, maximises our potential for achievement etc. Being so much motivated to be ever forward I hardly feel that there could be any emotional disturbances to dare attack anyone anymore.

Rule No. 2: Stay Away From Rumored Relationship

Falling in relationships as an adolescent is a very common feature seen among 21st century students, but the way we balance it, is what keeps us away from all kinds of emotions and disturbances. Relationships not only harms our daily routine but also acts as a barrier in fulfillment of most of our professional and personal commitments. It keeps us away from the normal crowd and takes us to a different world. It also leads us to a phase of low concentration and motivation towards achievement of our framed dreams, thereby creating poor mental health. So, the basic rules to avoid emotional disturbances to such an extent that it doesn't harm our mental wellbeing  is to stay away from rumored relationship.

Rule No. 3: Build Friendship With The Like Minded

Making the right choices when it comes to friendship is highly important. Friends help us in times of our needs, friends be with us in every good or bad deed, friends surround us with a positive energy, friends make us feel complete. Yes, friendship is primarily important in every person life. Hence we should be alert and awake in making the right kinds of friends. Getting in the wrong friend circle will not only hamper us mentally and physically but also disturb us emotionally. So be smart in choosing the smart but like minded friends.

Rule No. 4: Opt Parental Guidance & Counseling

Parents are always a motivating channel for better upbringing of students. They are the only freely available counselors and guides who don't think about money and time when it comes to their kids. The care, the love, the nourishment and the nurture they provide us is unmatchable. Developing the habit of sharing everything about your daily happenings and the way to tackle them wisely can be a great solace for the young generation. Our parents are not only a good source of motivation but also great inspiration and problem solvers in every good and bad phase of our life. So, kindly hear the voices of your parents, be grateful to them, give utmost respect and honor to them for giving you life.

Rule No. 5: Just Do It The Way You Want It To Be

Every Individual has their own set of goals which are predetermined. Be it personal, professional, academic, extra curricular, social, cultural, religious etc. Every individual feels extra comfort when he or she works on the ideas they have, fields they love and lives worthy. Being carried away by the fancy talks of the town, the unsupportive and jealous friend circle, the over possessive and extra caring families forms a big hurdle in the fulfillment of our dreams, our passion, our goals, our aims and our life. One needs to be mindful about the steps you choose to build your life and move on confidently so as to make your name known to the world. Exhibit your unique style of planning, thinking and executing to live and experience the wonders that you are capable of.

Hope the article will be helpful for most adolescents.

Happy Learning!!!
